Hey Gabriel/Kaleb! FINALLY!!!!! Somebody else has it too..I have a 123
and my 85 300D has had it since I bought it in 2000. I have had it checked
by 3 people and all say it is fine...I think next Spring I will replace the
turbo..it is not too bad in the Winter, but in spring and summer..it gets to
be too much after a while.

Some '84-'85 OM617.95 engines with Garrett turbos (NOT KKKs) made a
whistling noise that can only be repaired by changing the turbo (TSB
09/4 dated 11/85) or replacing several perts of the turbo. Mercedes
offered a kit for a few years (only available with a core to return - as
the major part in the kit was manufactured from returned original parts)
containing the parts to correct the offending turbo (917 090 00 99).
Modification of the turbo parts required services of a very well
equipped machine shop and a very good machinist. Mercedes did not expect
service facilities to perform the modification so supplied the kit -
until the early '90s I believe.
On OM60x.96 turbos and all other OM617.95 turbos, a whistle is caused by
a leak in the turbo or exhaust system (including the EGR) somewhere.
