We fight Mac users desire to update all the time. Our software requires a 
particular mix of the Mac OS and Quicktime to work correctly, Apple will go and 
make changes and break our software but your average Mac user when he or she 
sees an update gets it immediately...

I think it was 10.3.5 that overwrote the drive table for firewire800 drives 
making any data on there unusable...

Updates in general can have unpredicted consequences (Mac users will  
remember some 10.4.x updates with Quicktime changes that rendered  
some systems unable to use Quicktime, for instance), but MS is  
particularly bad about overwriting installed drivers, leaving you  
with things like no or bad video and no mouse.

You are not alone......
