Is this really a fix?  Seems that it must be either a design or
manufacturing flaw if so many were warping.  After the milling, wouldn't
it just eventually warp again?

Don't know. The shop that rebuilt my heads said that they would be stable, having already warped into their preferred shape. It's got 186k on it now and it's starting to use oil. I should have taken the exhaust and oil pan off and reringed the pistons when I had it apart in 2002.
