The reason is because it's not the same oil - it's a different formula
15W-50. The new stuff is called 'Extended Performance', or something
like that. Mobil charges more (about $6/qt in the quart bottles) for
the privilege of the oil lasting longer. (pause while I wait for you
stop laughing)  Anyway the 'standard' M-1, basically the stuff not
labeled Extended Performance, is still priced less - about the same as
the 'old' M-1, roughly $5/qt. Luckily, the 5W-40 weight, which is
Delvac-1 rebadged as 'Truck & SUV' formula, is considered NON-extended
performance (go figure!), and is only $20-$21 for the 5-qt jug at
Wal-Mart. Confused yet?
