Different players will make a difference too. I've found from bitter experience
that very expensive players will give you excellent results, I've also found
that really cheap players give good results and mid-price players are usually
garbage.
The best DVD player I ever had was an Apex I bought at Wal-Mart (before I
stopped going there) which was like $30. I have a Phillips that was more like
$150 that is terrible, there are loads of DVDs it just won't play.

Maybe
it's my player (though I have several and they all behave this way) but
it seems that if there's even a trace of a fingerprint on a DVD I'll
get freezes and pixelation; anything more than that and chance are good
it won't play at all.
