You didn't say but I'll guess this is a manual trans in which case I'm reasonably sure the switch is in the car under the shifter boot. On my 190D anyway theres an arm on the shifter which pushes on the switch... Now that I think of it I haven't looked at the 240D so take this for what its worth.
