I think that filter assembly has been used on most models for the last ten 
years. My friend JB's '99 CLK 430 filter and cartridge is the same as my '01 
and 
'08 models although the fleece filter came along later but is required for 
long-interval oil changes. I have used the same cap style 1/4 inch drive 
"wrench' since my 201 days.
