I posted a message over a year ago about my 300SD's shifting habits. Just to
refresh everyone's memory, here it is:

Here's a question I'm sure someone could answer or at least point me in the
right direction. This wonderful 300sD of mine has been shifting abnormally
since I've owned the car. The 1-2 shift doesn't happen until about 2200RPM
but will wait until 3500 RPM at 90% throttle or better. When driving with a
light foot (2200RPM engagement), 2nd gear comes in VERY HARD, but it's
better at full throttle. 2-3 seems relatively normal, but the3-4 shift
occurs either at near redline or when letting off the pedal at any speed in
3rd. It should go through the gears at any throttle and only shift at the
redline during WOT acceleration runs. Any pointers on this
would be greatly appreciated!

The winner is....KALEB!! He had the correct answer that the shifting control
cable was too tight! I got the broken adjustment housing to behave, and I
turned it in nearly as far as it would go. We drove it over 20 miles today
around town, and it did wonderfully! It will now shift through the gears
normally no matter the pedal position, and will stay in a gear or kick down at
the appropriate times. No more herky jerky bone jarring shifts! hopefully,
she will get driven some more now that her manners have improved.
