A bigger question is why does the USAF require rated (pilot) commissioned
officers to fly these things when the Army has shown these qualifications
are unnecessary.  Answer: USAF is a flying club, owned and operated by
pilots.  I base this on 25 years as a second-class member of that club.

I believe it's harder to fly remote than in-plane, so seat experience
doesn't 
help as much for radio control as you might think.
