Enough people complained about Windows Mail that it is no longer
available and Windows 7 does not include an integrated email reader.
They now have some kind of online based, desktop look client ala
Google Gears called Windows Live Mail. You download a front end
program that works through Microsoft servers.

It does have an "offline" mode so you don't have to be online to open
the client side app, but it is not to be confused with Outlook or
Windows Mail (which was actually Outlook Express 7 renamed.) However,
from what I can understand, instead of a one to one relationship ala
setting up an account in OE or Thunderbird or etc then opening that
app and having it make a call to the mail server and download your
mail, Windows Live Mail sets up a multipoint relationship where you
set up the account on the Microsoft server, the Microsoft server
downloads your mail from your mail server, then the app makes a call
to the Microsoft server to get the mail.

The new integrated text editor Windows Mail uses needs more resources
than the default editor in either OE 6 or Outlook Professional 2003.
With Outlook Pro you can use Microsoft Word as the text editor for
writing mail, I don't remember if you can in OE 6 but I'm relatively
sure you can *not* change the default editor for Windows Mail.

Isn't that the truth?
