Its not the heat its the humidity...

My welding instructor would have a cow. I'm welding in shorts and a tee shirt.
I do kneel on a "neat sheet" my wife bought some time ago. Its now holed in
several places. Better it than my leg. I am wearing gloves though...

Had a brainstorm today and welded some 1x1x1/8" angle iron to the support
channel under the bed. Its a U channel with flanges but the flanges have rusted
off where the bed was holed. I'd fixed one Monday but there was another 36"
(18" wide but 2 sides) that I couldn't bring myself to do, its a pretty long
process to fix it right. So this afternoon I just scabbed the angle iron on.
It'd be way stronger than the 20ga flange that was there before, the bed will
rust off around my new flanges... I'm also in the process of welding 1/2"x1/8"
strips around the cut out area. I'm not a terrific planner so my repair pieces
generally don't fit perfectly. I'd forgotten to just cut oversize and joggle
the edges (dummy!) so I'm welding the strips under the edge with 1/2 lap so the
repair piece has something under it all the way around to weld to. Should make
for a much nicer finished product. Wish I'd thought of it before I put in the
other piece. Oh well, live and
learn. This is the most major welding repair I've ever done.

In fact my welds this afternoon are some of the nicest I've ever done. I got a
couple of 1/4" tacks that look perfect, good penetration and everything. Then I
put in one of my strips, tacked it, pulled off the clamp and the strip fell
off... Nice looking tack but zero penetration... Practice practice practice...

How do you handle the cool weather this time of year? Sweater, gloves
and such?
