Good post Tim. You could also have a small propane heater in the car, as you say it won't take much heat to keep the car warm... Back in the late '70s my Mom drove a Type III VW (Fastback) and had a small propane heater in the cab to keep warm in the cold of northern Maine.
I've thought a lot about an electric car, I particularly like my idea for a 190EV. My wife commutes 20 miles a day and could certainly have a plug at work (the building owner is pretty hip) to recharge if she needed to travel more. An electric could easily suit her needs while it'd be difficult to make one for my 55 mile each way commute... The only way to get electric cars better is to have BAD ones to start with. Does anybody now thing the Model T was a good car? No it was horrible, it was slow, hard to drive, unreliable, hard to start, and frequently dangerous but it was only through mass production of the Model T that people started thinking of cars as a replacement for horses. Only by bad electric cars getting out and people getting used to the idea will we ever get the innovation needed to make good electric cars... -Curt Date: Thu, 13 Aug 2009 15:52:20 -0400 From: Tim C <bb...@crone.us> Subject: Re: [MBZ] Cash for clunkers hits home To: Mercedes Discussion List <mercedes@okiebenz.com> Message-ID: <e5fe3f3d0908131252l25f009ddudbb2dfa51ab74...@mail.gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Randy, The EVers have come a long way. I don't know anything about GM, but I had the same questions with respect to custom EVs. I never cease to be amazed that the journalist types who hype this stuff in > the daily newspapers never seem to > notice that there is not likely going to be any heat available in this nice > little electric car. I live up here > where the ground is white for a lot of the year. I want to know how long > the battery will last when it is minus 25 > out and if I get electric heat as part of the deal. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
