For what it is worth. In my experience heat has always solved the problem of stuck nuts. Today I was changing the auxiliary fan on my 300TD and the phillips screw was impossible to get out. I even tried a ratchet with a phillips driver. The housing is aluminum and the screw is steel. I warmed it up to a slight red with maps gas and then doused it in water. The screw then came out fairly easily.

'Was gonna do a simple, quick job this afternoon - R&R belt on JD lawn tractor mower deck. 'Simple and easy getting the deck from under the tractor. Two bolts holding fairing over one of the pulleys were tight, but I got 'em out (started) with little extra effort. Not so with the two bolts holding the fairing over pulley on the other side of the mower deck! The two bolts are very hard steel 3/8" hex head; socket slips, box-end slips, vice grip slips; 'began to wonder what a piece of dynamite or a B-52 strike might do to get 'em loose. 'Reconsidered those two options, though, and decided to think about it overnight; 'slipped the deck back under the mower and came inside. Underside/other end of each bolt/screw is not accessible. Wide flared area on base of the head also prevents access to thread area for application of any of the recently-mentioned thread-loosening elixirs. 'Think 'bout trying to drill hole down through head and into bolt to relieve some internal stresses. The bolts/screws look much like those that secure some fenders on many vehicles, but they seem to be significantly harder.
