Max, if you are one of the thousands who are having and up close and
personal relationship with the H1N1 virus, you are considered contagious for
at least a day, and perhaps two days, after the fever goes away. You might
want to check with the company about returning. My wife might have had it,
and she went to work and had the manual tossed to her from ten feet away,
and was sent back home. If it was the H1N1 it was quite mild with only a
very low fever that only lasted a few hours. There are some advantages in
not being young and healthy these days.

Subject: [MBZ] biodegrading W124 wiring insulation

Well, home sick for the third day now, still feverish this a.m., entire
household has been stricken, but I'm well enough so I plan to go to work
tomorrow as long as the fever goes away today. Daughter was fever-free days
ago, so today Mom took her to dance/play group, and I had a few hours to
work on my 'new' '95 E300D.

Decided to start taking off all the stuff above the injection pump, which
the book says needs to be removed in order to replace the IP timer (which
was chewed up by the failed vacuum pump). I found that the wires at the
connectors for the controller for the intake butterfly-valves are devoid of
insulation and clearly shorting out. The CarFax for this car had a repair
entry indicating that the engine wiring harness had been replaced, so I was
surprised to find this. Need to look at more sections of the wiring harness
to see what's going on. This wiring problem would explain some of this
car's lack of power. Also found two vacuum lines disconnected, one for the
fuel shut-off and not sure what the other is for. Going surprisingly well
so far, but I'll have to label/record all the vacuum and electrical
connections for the injection pump. Removal of the intake manifold and
cross-over pipe were pretty straight forward. I spent about 1.5 hours,
taking my time.
