It smells like.... diesel!
Had the tank pretty low on the SD, got the parts, so today I got it up
on ramps and drained the rest of the fuel into a jug or two -- it was
nasty black stuff, looked like used diesel oil. I guess it will be good
to use in the tiki torches. Didn't get too too much on me but enough
that I will be fragrant for a couple of days I am sure.
Tank filter came off easily when I turned off the hose fitting, it was
jammed in there so it just spun the tank filter right out. (Maybe I can
return that $23 socket I got at Sears the other day, without the
doorbuster deal.) Not much if any crud on the tank filter, so I guess
whatever was in there wasn't going long enough to reproduce too much.
Couldn't feel any slime in the tank, a bit of sediment. The inline and
main filters are catching the black stuff I guess, will watch those for
a while. Dumped in a few gallons of new diesel, car running OK. I'll
keep dosing it with biocide, make sure no more schmutz.
Turns out it was an easy job, just a little nasty dealing with the
remainder of the fuel in the tank. I was obsessing about it, so I share
my lesson.
