Right. The Kalifornia government just doesn't want you to buy a new diesel car. It doesn't keep you from owning one that was bought elsewhere. In fact, owning an older diesel is less of a hassle there than many places, since they're exempt from smog testing. I've seen plenty of 123, 124, and 126 diesels in the Silicon Valley area.
