It's often in the bottom hidden under the rotating spray
whatchamacallit (I want to call it the agitator, but obviously that's
not right).  Look for screws.  On my 10-year-old Whirlpool, the
"agitator" is mounted with a large plastic wingnut---once you take
that off, there's a circle of Torx screws.  Then you take those out
and there's a large round plastic screen which gets clogged with bits
of food.  First time I did that it was because of symptoms just like
what you're describing; cleaning the screen fixed it.
