Other thoughts:

Titles can be wrong, especially pre-standard-VIN.  It's just some
DMV dweeb typing them in at times.

It's really an SEL, and the tank really is full of diesel.  Just some
of the love that it needs!

One more:

A lot of people (because of the relatively massive numbers of 123 300Ds sold
during the late-'70s early'80s oil crisis) think all old Mercedes are
diesels.

I would be willing to believe that some people don't even know what "diesel" means. (That set would have a non-empty conjunction with the set of people who call every six-cylinder engine a V6 and every manual transmission a
5-speed.)
