Since I quit gaming I am a laptop convert. Built in UPS, portable,
does the job etc etc etc. Laptops used to be so expensive but these days
they are practically disposable. My wifes has lasted 3 years now and I
paid a wopping $300 for it. Given the "life cycle" of an average cpu
these days I think it was a good deal. My 2 cents.

My mobo got fried 3 or 4 weeks ago in a lightning storm, some bolts
hit nearby, not sure if the power lines got a surge or it was just
EMP, but whatever it killed the mobo. So I ordered another cheap one
that would hold my processor, and another new set up -- new board, new
quad processor, and 4GB of memory. The cheap mobo worked fine with my
old WinXP and loading the new drivers from the mobo install CD.
Then another lightning storm popped around and killed my DSL router
and the cheap replacement mobo again a week later. I replaced that
dead board with the other one with the faster processor, etc. and
could not get WinXP to work -- I could not get the install files read
off the CD drive, it kept coming up with some weird error message I
have never seen before that seemed to imply some read error on the CD
drive. So I booted up off an old Ubuntu CD I had, I installed Ubuntu
on my hard drive with a dual boot option, then was able to boot into
Ubuntu and the board worked fine. I kinda ran out of patience, still
want to get XP working so I can use my programs I have there on the
HD, not ready to go totally to Ubuntu since I have so much Winders
stuff on the machine I want to use.
I sent the dead board back, supposed to be getting a replacement for
it, so I will try to get the machine running again on that board, but
I would really like to get that new faster board working. Any
suggestions?
I got a UPS too, will put everything on that to prevent frying again.
