OK so today I found a used trailer in really good condition and bought
it for what I thought was a good price, from a big trailer place that
does a lot of business with racing teams, seemed legit. Some guy had
just traded this one in on another one, it looked barely used. 16ft with
a 2ft drop end and removable ramps, and elec brakes, tires almost new,
they had serviced it. I told the guy I wanted a 7000lb he says yep this
one has 2 3500lb axles, rated 7000lb. So then I get home and it says
"Gross Weight 5000lb" stamped on the tongue (which the guy looked at and
told me, I did not have my spectacles so couldn't make it out). I call
him up, he says the trailer is 2000lb and it can haul 5000lb, but he was
gonna check and call me back, which he did not do late this afternoon.
Anyway, to me, gross weight is full-up weight of the trailer plus load,
not just the load. Am I wrong?
