A great Christmas gift from Santa a few years ago was a digital thermal gun .
It is very useful when diagnosing brakes and cooling systems. I also 'shot' my
tires on RV as a quick and dirty test to assure they are all carrying the same
load.

Subject: Re: [MBZ] caliper squeezing

The swelling is not from age or random. It is caused by putting DOT3
fluid in the system. It is easy to check for this condition. After
driving several miles, get out and touch all 4 wheels near the lugs.
If it is hot, you have a dragging brake (or parking brake. If there
is nothing obviously bad, on inspection, change the hoses.

An alternate way is to try to push in the caliper pucks. If they are
really hard to push, but push easily with the bleeder open, the hose
is swollen and needs to be replaced.
