No gasket - just a good bead of urethane. Check for any signs of rust around
the frame; the two fore/aft trim pieces pull up at the base of the hood hinge
point to remove, you can tie them off to each side view mirror to hold out of
the way, and then use a plastic wedge to pry out the top frame piece - all
three
trim pieces are simply pushed down into friction fit clamps.

My '95 E300 had a poorly done replacement windshield; the installers did not
properly prime/paint the scratches from removing the old glass, and so I had a
lot of rust, which in one bad spot had bubbled up and caused a crack. $230 job
turned into a $800 job plus time required for shop to weld in a piece of
replacement steel.

Check the rubber gasket going across the base of the windshield - it should be
laying flat all the way across. If it won't lay flat, odds are you've got a
replacement which was not done correctly OR somebody has been working on the
w.wiper. The plastic gutters on the left and right of the w.wiper are also
fragile and subject to breakage by heavy-handed technicians - I had to replace
the right-hand side gutter on my car.

Subject: [MBZ] E420 and windshield replacement

The windshield on the E420 has some cracks running across it and I think
I'm going to have to replace it. Q says there is no gasket like on the
W123. Anything else I should know about before I get it done?
