I don't know where OWC gets their RAM, but I have bought from them for years for any Mac RAM requirements and never had a problem. This is for desktops, laptops and servers (G3, G4 and XServes.) They have always guaranteed compatibility and offered lifetime warranty, and I've never had a problem or had to replace any of it.
They have been a 100% Apple reseller for years, so they obviously know what they are doing. I would also encourage him to go to a G4 if he can, but if it's not local the shipping alone will make it cost prohibitive.
