If anyone has had viruses/malware get past AVGfree antivirus recently, this may be the reason: http://free.avg.com/us-en/news.ndi-226253 It was not long after this announcement that AVGfree shortened the length of time it spent on its daily search, and recently a trojan got through AVGfree on my computer. I've used AVGfree for about ten years and "never" had any viruses or malware get past it. I may be wrong, but I suspect that the "investor(s)" in the above link are probably responsible for degrading AVGs "free" program.
(www.Malwarebytes.com caught the trojan on my computer).
Computer professionals and others have recommended Microsofts "Security Essentials" as replacements for AVG Free along with running Malwarebytes weekly.
