Chicken/egg You have to look carefully which came first. In most cases, automotive features, including styling, come from Stuttgart, and spread elsewhere. (tip o' t' hat to Jaimie)

That said, I sure prefer the looks of the 113, 123, 124 and especially the 126


I think it is mostly a matter of taste. From an exterior standpoint, the last Mercedes I thought looked really good was the W126. One glance and you *knew* it was a Mercedes Benz.

Today's designs look generic. Hard to tell them apart from any of the asian styles. Even BMW, who I thought held to the "classic" look much longer, has fallen. Compare the current 740i to the current S class. Cookie cutter.
