Whatever happened to kids learning to read and then choosing to
read a dictionary or an encyclopedia?
Happens that this is my son's favorite activity! Loves history
books, maps, etc. But he does go to a small private school.
it's considered democratic to make sure that no student gains an
unfair advantage by knowing more than the dumbest kid can absorb.
Catchphrases like 'no child left behind' are thrown around, but the
actual system seems more like 'no child gets ahead'.
The _Marching_Morons_, anyone?

An informed, active public is a necessary condition to a republic.
Turning groups of citizens against each other, training them to
accept info from "authority" without questions (marching morons) and
creating chaos are necessary conditions for socia list/com munist
takeover of a country.
