spent part of today soaking it with PB Blaster and banging down on the post/seat with a rubber hammer and it hasn't budged yet.
Heat? Maybe a bit of propane torch work on the steel might help. Can you get a steel rod in the bottom to apply some serious metal-hammer pounding in the opposite direction you were trying?
