One time on a bike ride in 1984, we heard the howl of a wound out engine ahead in the distance. A gray Pinto went by at terminal velocity, then there was a loud crash and silence. As we turned around to see if there was enough left of the driver to administer first aid, we saw that it had spun and hit the guardrail tailfirst after failing to negotiate a curve. (yikes, we were riding there 40 seconds before he crashed there) Then we heard a starter. Before we got there, the Pinto restarted and actually limped off down the road under its own power.

Assuming the thing had a 2.8L and auto tranny, how fast would it have been going when it spun backwards into the guardrail? How much slower if just a 2300? The back of that car was a real mess, and the guardrail was pushed out 4-6' with several broken posts.
