It really doesn't matter what the law says does it? I still will say that less is better from a safety standpoint. Darker tint is like looking through sunglasses at night. I don't know what % my windows are tinted but I know it would be easy to back into things if I did not roll down the windows to see at night.
Would you wear sunglasses to drive at night if it were legal to do so? Just because a state says it is legal does not mean it is safe or wise.
