Fixing the CLS on the 87 300D turned out to be pretty simple. I found a fuse blown. I was sure it was not blown the last time I checked. I dug out the vac pump, took the 2 wire plug off and took it apart as in the manual. then replaced the Red fuse. Cycled the door lock a couple times, then plugged in the + and - cables to the pump. Shut the doors and cycled the lock. Pump seemed to work (with vacuum unplugged.) The horn started honking in alarm mode when i opened the back door. Got it shut off with the door lock.

Then I plugged in the vacuum line, and cycled the switch, and the locks worked.

So I put the plug back together, put the pump away, put it all back together. And it works. So, I don't know what popped the fuse, or why it was all screwed up in the first place.

Before I started, I took the door panel of the LR door where the broken window glass started the whole CLS problem. I found the glass shop did not clean the broken glass out of the door, and they failed to replace the plastic liner. So now I need to make a new plastic liner. Next project, while the 3M glue sets for the 2 hooks that came loose, is to make the new liner.

I seem to remember in 80-010 that it said something about a reset by touching the + and _ battery cables together. Mayhaps cycling the switch with the pump unplugged effectively reset whatever that is.

Still confused, but it is working! On to the next project, the ign switch.
