My 123.190 had a plastic radiator tank, and plastic headlight surrounds (aka 
doors) that disintegrate with time, plus a 123 will rust away long before a 124.

Which is exactly my point.  I would be very surprised if planned
obsolescence was even on the radar at Daimler-Benz before 1990.
