When my Dad left GM in the early 70s, he made a beeline for World Wide Motors, 
the local MB dealership in Indianapolis.

He put down a deposit and ordered a 380SL, as I recall.

A few months later, when the oil shortage hit and the "park your foreign car in 
the country it came from" mentality kicked in, his car was delivered.

We went to look at it, and that was it.

Since my Dad was in the banking industry financing capital goods, primarily 
construction equipment, his customers would have been mad as heck if he drove 
up in a foreign car (at that time.)

So the 380 never left the lot with us. That was the most bummed out I think I 
ever saw my Dad.
