The 300SD he's looking at has symptoms of a broken B2 piston. I suggested that while he was fixing that, he might consider the K1 upgrade since it's little extra work at that point. However the K1 spring is unrelated to the problem of "only reverse works". I only suggested it as a "while you are in there" and it might be totally unnecessary in this case.
