Good Morning all:

Just had a chance to sit down with a cup of coffee and read for the first
time this week. In the December issue of Limo Digest (Trade magazine for
those of us in Livery Service) an extensive article recommends the S Class
3.0V6 to replace the discontinued towncar. At a tested 33 MPG highway
(remember us livery folks generally stick to the speed limit and try not to
upset our passengers with jack rabbit starts), they feel the additional
$25,000 sticker price will be offset in reduced maint and fuel cost over
the life of the vehicle. By no means can I afford one but I will keep you
posted as they are doing a 500,000 mile analysis of the costs.

The towncars have always been very good to me, delivering 25MPG
consistently and having very low maint expense with the exception of fords
famously poor front ends which you can count on spending about $2000 on
every 100,000 miles. Not sure where the s-class is built maybe some one
here knows, but the towncar was built in Canada and I suspect over the
years was down to having less American content then a Toyota Camry. At
first Glance you get a pain in your gut that the traditional American
luxury is being replaced with Germany Luxury but after the logical side of
your brain kicks in using an S-Class for American livery may create more
American jobs then the towncar was.
