Well, I did use some 'lectric to start it - a portable battery pack.

The only thing that can disable a diesel is the glow plug relay or fuse.

Thanks Rich and Jim for your help. Hans at German Auto only needed
about 20
seconds to find a bad fuse, #5, and replace it, and then the car started
right
up. No charge for Hans' work!

Funny, I looked at the fuses with my flashlight at about 0645 this a.m.,
couldn't see the break, but in light of day it was obvious.

Now the ASD light stays lit, so apparently there's a problem in that
system that
killed the fuse while I was driving. Going to try to troubleshoot
during my
lunch break.

Glad to hear it was a simple fix. Still, I can't imagine a Diesel engine being disabled by a blown fuse for something so rarely needed as ASD. That
removes one of the last and best reasons for owning a Diesel. The
unstoppability and reliability.

I ran my 200D from san Angelo TX to Peoria, IL (over 1300 miles) over 60
hours during a severe ice storm with no alternator output in 1974. No
electrojuicity didn't keep the good ol Diesels from running. The
headlights do get dim though.

None of those engines require electricity to run. (once you get it
started) That is one reason I decided to "regress" to 240Ds for short
distance runabouts. The death of Ennis Cosby along an LA freeway because
he had a flat tar, has had an admittedly memorable effect on me. I like
engines that just keep running, and good tars. (and staying out of LA, NYC,
DC, Deetriot and such places)

I also loved my BMW 50/2 because it also needed no electricity to run
(other than that generated in the magneto) I love the magneto equipped
International H tractors for the same reason.
