I've probably told this story before...When my daughter "needed" a car in
high school, I "gave" her my '79 240D, which I had lovingly repaired and
cleaned up over a period of several years. It was brown, and VERY
SLOW...she and her brother called it "The Brown Turd". She knew she needed
to change the oil every 3,000, but never thought about needing to check it
between changes. Called me up one day and said she and her brother had to
add 5 quarts to it, and it sounded REAL bad. Sure enough, she had toasted a
piston or two, and I was not in a position to either repair it myself or pay
for it. Sold it to a guy who had a 300D with a good engine and a rusty
body. She then got her mother to get her a used Honda Accord. Oh, well.

Great choice! A 240D auto is a great first car.

I let my daughter drive my SDL one time and she immediately scraped the LF
alloy wheel on a curb. OUCH!
