I have not looked into it but I remember reading somewhere that one must be quite careful when one decides to import a car from the US into Canada. There are some that were never sold here and as such are apparently not permitted. I think the article said MB was about the worst for odd or unusual versions and if one decided to buy an MB in the USA, one would be prudent to ensure it was importable.

I don't think there is any issue with most newer domestic vehicles but some imports may be an issue. I talked with a fellow one time at a car show who had brought in a "hotrod" - don't recall exactly what but a 1930's thing that had a newer V8 etc and disc brakes. He had a devil of a time getting a safety certificate to have it licenced because it did not have original brakes. He argued that what it had was obviously much better than the original mechanical drum brakes but that apparently made no difference. He had to find out what the brakes were from and provide evidence that the hot rod did not weigh more etc. They also made him buy new discs because he was unable to satisfy them that the discs were of sufficient thickness. Odd, but true.

"a European model never offered in this country very rare"

How long did you say it would take to get that part that prevents it from running, and how many $$$$ did you say it would cost????

I guess in this day and age with internet and couriers etc, it is not insurmountable, but one has to think one will encounter issues of that nature.

I also expect I would not be able to bring it into Canada if I did want it.
