In a nutshell: The problem is related to the way Hotmail displays emails in its web interface. When you access Hotmail via any web browser, Hotmail's interface uses this feature called 'Active View' that is supposed to make emails easier to navigate and look more like webpages (e.g. showing attachments as embedded content, etc.). You can disable the way 'Active View' handles certain emails and attachments, but you cannot disable it completely. For whatever reason, this 'Active View' feature wreaks havoc on MIME multipart messages; which, as it turns out, is the default message type for digest subscribers. The digest emails show up jumbled and out of order, basically rendering digest mode intolerable. Fortunately, our list allows members to receive digests in one of two forms: MIME or Plain Text. By default, the option selected is MIME, so all we did was switch the delivery preference to Plain Text. Now the digests are showing up correctly. Bottom line... If you use Hotmail as your email provider and wish to receive the Mercedes list in digest mode: 1) Use a POP3 email client (e.g. Outlook, etc.) which does not require use of the web interface. OR 2) Access your email via a web browser and change your mailing list delivery preference from MIME to Plain Text (accessible by logging into the Mercedes mailing list website with your email address and password).
