Once I got all the parts, putting the new water pump on and everything back together was not too bad.
I did get a tube of Hylomar Advanced Formula and used that on the o-ring sealed plate that goes over a machining hole on the back of the pump and on the o-ring sealed connection between the pump and the block. The o-ring for the plate fit tightly on the o-ring groove, so the Hylomar AF wasn't necessary there. The o-ring for the pump to block connection, however, was loose in its groove, so the Hylomar was quite necessary there to keep the o-ring correctly positioned during assembly. Before I took things apart, I was aware that a bearing was making noise. I felt the bearing for the serpentine belt tensioner pulley and found roughness, so I got a new one of those. I'm not sure how thoroughly I checked the fan shaft bearing, but when I put the fan pulley back on, I spun it by hand and heard bearing noise. Oops. I guess I will be taking things apart again in the not too distant future. At least this time, the heater water return pipe bolt won't be a problem and I'll know what I'm doing. I just have to find out from Rusty whether the bearing is available separately, or if the bearing support plate has to be replaced (which is definitely the easier, but more expensive, way).
