Some of us think the sun flickers.
LED's themselves are cheap and last as long as a transistor lasts.
The arrays they have to be put in and the driving circuitry embedded in
that array is the driver for the cost factor.  Allthough not cost effective
for manufacturers in the short run,  the benefits are out there.
Considering marketing appeal - looks sooo cool, last forever, use less
power, etc. - combined with the price tag of replacements, why not.
When the bulb on the tail light of my truck burnet out, $ 1.95 fixed that.
When the lens cracked (not my fault, I swear), $12.50 fiixed that.
The LED tail light on my friends SLK 350 got hit and shattered. It still
works, but the cosmetic damge is 1.200 bucks worth.
