You could order leather as an option, as you could cloth as well. If I recall, it did add some time to delivery, since neither was a stock option for the US spec cars, I believe.
When my Dad ordered his 81 380SL, I remember them giving him the choices, but discouraging him from ordering them. Wide World Motors in Indianapolis. I believe they are still the MB stealer ship in Indy.
