The only 2 ways I ever siphon liquids is either using a Siphon Pump or
by using a clear tube and leaving a low spot around my knees so I can
see the liquid start flowing and I can direct it into a container -
then it never gets close to any part of me...
ULSD probably tastes as bad as everyone says, I don't even want to think
about what gas with ethanol must taste like .... popcorn maybe? ;-)

I can assure you that sucking fuel fumes into my lungs was entirely
involuntary - probably by taking breath thru mouth after spitting the
small bit of fuel out. 'Don't think I've sucked on one since, and
don't plan on it again.

The trick to not suck with your lungs, but with your tongue.
Like pipe smoking, I'm told.
Take a deep breath, hold it, and use only your tongue to
generate the vacuum. It might take a few mouth-fulls, but
neither the liquid nor the vapor should ever be able to get past
your mouth. Should bad things happen and too much gets in your
mouth and you cough, you won't have to pull air (and vapor and
liquid) in before a violent exhale.
Still it's not a terribly safe thing to do - but neither is
driving. Or living.
