The grill should fit. The differences in the 2 cars are in the rear door
area. The SEL is 4" longer in the rear doors. Both the 280SEL and 280SE
are W108s unless one is a Cabriolet (W111) or something other than a 4 door
sedan.
A W113 is a 230/250/280SL which is the 2 seat sports car of the 70's - also
called a "Pagoda" roof. The grill for a W113 will not fit a W108.
Mercedes also produced a 280SE "Low Grill Coupe" in 1970 but these are very
rare. Why not ask the seller to measure the grill?
So, the short answer is, Yes, it should fit. But you should confirm the
chassis number of the 71 280SE to make certain it's a W108 like yours. MB
changed things often (still do I suppose) and the best way is to asl someone
with the parts microfische to confirm the parts numbers. But you can check
the chassis type numbers of each vehicle to be certain they're W108's -
I'd have to check my microfiche but I believe the grill from any W108 will
fit - which means a 65-72 250S/SE/SEL, 280S/SE/SEL will fit.

for the 108 chassie and the 280sel is the 113.?.
Does anyone know if the grill from the 108 will bolt
on to the 113 chassie?
