We have had to do that here for a number of years.
I find it annoying but I guess I understand the reasoning behind it.
In Michigan we have to produce photo ID, either state ID / driver's license or
passport, or we have to sign a statement that we are who we are and we don't
have government issued picture ID. That law is widely criticized as 'racist'.
