Car my son uses to commute about 100 miles a day is a 1993, W124 with 227K on 
clock but about 176K on transplanted power train. (Engine & trany - power train 
was re-done in 2004 with 141K on Car and 90K on power train). Car has run well 
until now (exception being annoying oil leak) with basic standard maintenance 
using M1 etc at required intervals.
 
Of late it seems to have developed vacuum issues.
 
Engine shut off did not work properly. Diagnosis with a MitiVac showed slow 
leak from shut off valve, which was then replaced with part from the parts 
engine, which holds vac perfectly. However this did not solve issue. When the 
switch is shut off, the valve kicks in, vacuum from the line from the switch 
holds at 22. Problem is the valve as mounted on the IP does not have enough 
"pull" to shut off engine completely! It slows the RPM but i still need to 
manually push the "shut off lever" the last little bit to get the engine to 
stop. (it's almost as if the shut off valve is fighting something that will not 
give the last little bit without outside help.)
 
At the same time the car shifts a bit poorly. It goes through the lower shifts 
from a stand still OK, but, between 3 and 4th at 4000 RPM or higher you need to 
take your foot of the accelerator to fool it into that last shift. Other than 
that there is no slippage or irregularity in the shift. 
 
With car running at idle the Miti Vac reads about 18 to just under 20.
