Because I always had significant projects to keep on schedule and to get
completed (several at Sondy and one across Greenland at Kulusuk) and a trip
pending, time went very fast, and I never had time to think about being
lonely (missing family), which I was, but I was having to get a helluva lot
of stuff done. Most frustrating for a while was supply - ordering and
receiving parts and supplies in a timely manner. Like I've said before,
when I ordered a part for the power plant project, I needed it that day;
'didn't have time nor the patience to put up with supply officer's BS.
Things went much better after I had a $50k+ fund to use at my discretion and
authority to call manufacturer direct and have parts delivered to McGuire,
NJ, within a day or two for immediate transport north to me.

While I was never at a remote location for more than a month, I found that
if I did everything possible to keep as busy as I could time would go by
quickly. In a lot of these locations entertainment opportunities were
often minimal, so any down time was usually spent finding someone else who
was working and just helping them out.
It's sort of a family joke now, but I used to keep time by counting
showers. That is, I would count down to my departure date by the number of
showers I had left.
"Only 10 showers left until I go home!"

Thanks, and glad to have had the opportunity. Ditto on the almost
bearable part, too. BTW, other than having to be away from the family,
Greenland was probably the best assignment I ever had.
