No guy at an inspection station would know the difference in the 5.0L as compared to the 3.8L.
Here in North Carolina starting January 1st 1995 and older cars will not be tested for emissions. They will just look and very it has the catalytic converter installed. For 1996 and newer it will be done all via OBDII, that is plug into computer and if computer in your car says it is good you pass emissions.
