(07-06) 13:11 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- A Boeing 777 passenger jetliner bound from Seoul, South Korea, crashed and caught fire while landing at San Francisco International Airport on Saturday. The plane, Asiana Airlines Flight 214, crashed about 11:30 a.m. and came to rest on the side of runway 28L, said Lynn Lunsford, a spokeswoman with the Federal Aviation Administration. The airport was shut down to all traffic and emergency teams were on the scene. The plane reportedly was carrying 291 people.
David Eun, a passenger on the flight, said people were injured. "Fire and rescue people all over the place," he said in a tweet. "They're evacuating the injured. I haven't felt this way since 9/11." Witnesses told KCBS-AM radio that they had seen the plane's emergency chutes deploy and that several people had slid down them and away from the aircraft. Video footage of the plane taken by news helicopters showed that the cockpit was intact but that the top of the jet had burned away. The jetliner's tail section was not visible. The National Transportation Safety Board said it was sending investigators to the airport. Flights that were scheduled to land at SFO were being diverted to Oakland, San Jose and Sacramento. http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/South-Korean-passenger-jet-crashes-at-SFO-4650259.php Pictures: http://www.sfgate.com/news/item/What-San-Franciscans-are-saying-right-now-20117.php _______________________________________ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
