I'm living on Puppy Linux from a 16GB key drive right now as Win7 on my laptop
took a dump.

Its actually a little snappier with Puppy...

On that note, can you use another computer to burn a live Linux install CD
or flash drive and boot from it?  That will automatically configure itself
for you network hardware, so if you can then get online, you can rule out a
hardware problem.

Plus you might find that you like Linux ;)

Barring that option, I would try uninstalling the network card drivers,
then rebooting the machine and let Windows find the hardware and go through
the "New Hardware Found " dance.  That worked for me when I had an HP
laptop that would periodically forget that it had a wireless card.
