I agree with Kaleb. The clutches are wear items and just like brake pads and you can't tell their condition until the last bit of friction material breaks through and you start slipping. Because of this, I've never bought a used transmission - I've always had then rebuilt. But I also drive 50,000 + miles / year and I rally can't take a change on a used transmission.
Engines are another story. You can tell a lot with a wet / dry compression test. No. Not unless you just go ahead and tear it down and inspect the clutches etc. Hans Neureiter wrote: > I am going to pick my newly aquired $ 300 tranny up. > Is there something I should know to look for? > > -- > Hans Neureiter, Houston, TX > '82 300SD, '95 E300D > _______________________________________ > http://www.striplin.net > For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ > For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://striplin.net/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_striplin.net > > > -- Kaleb C.
